Police have made arrests in connection with an investigation into child abuse allegations involving the late Prime Minister Edward Heath

Two people have been arrested in connection with ongoing police investigations into sexual abuse allegations made against the former prime minister Edward Heath.

The police launched Operation Confier after the former prime minister was named as a suspect in a historical abuse case.

No further information was given about the other two suspects that have been arrested by Wiltshire Police.

Another investigation was recently opened by the Independent Police Complaints Commission after a former retired police officer alleged that Wiltshire police deliberately sabotaged a criminal investigation decades ago.

Earlier this year it was concluded that allegations which claimed that the prosecution against a brothel keeper was dropped due to threats to name Edward Heath as a suspect are false.

Edward Heath died at the age of 89 in July 2005.
