Meditation can play an important role in education, according to one analyst.

Bob Roth, director of the David Lynch Foundation told reporters about his desire to set up ‘peace universities’ on every continent, and promote the benefits of transcendental meditation, also referred to as T-M.

He also spoke of his plans to create peace groups comprised over 8,000 advanced T-M meditators and recruit them by encouraging kids to meditate while they are at school, with a view to attending one of the peace universities.

His organisation, works with schools to teach both staff and pupils to meditate. He then allows the school to decide whether to set aside an amount of time each day dedicated to ‘quiet time’ whether that be in the form of mediation, napping, or silent reading.

He said in an exclusive interview with Positive News that he has worked alongside famous faces in a bid to promote meditation.

“Our first Change Begins Within concert was at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in April 2009, which featured the reunion of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. From there we set out to raise the funds to teach one million at-risk youth and we are at about half a million now.”

Roth added that through his programme, he has found that his approach has been popular with the vast majority of young people he comes across.

In the same interview he added: “We find that 98 per cent of the kids do T-M because it’s an enjoyable thing. We instruct them and we do the follow-ups. We take questions from parents; air the whole thing out. And once they have it, the school is completely transformed. That’s no exaggeration; because they meditate twice a day, regularly, the results are very powerful.”

In addition to working with schools, he also works with vulnerable women, those living in unstable environments and those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

Roth believes that young people are the hope of the future and could one day inspire more peace initiatives in the world, through the practice of meditation.
