The BBC has welcomed disgraced paedophile Jonathan King to participate in a documentary about the pop group Genesis.

The decision to include the former DJ who spent three and a half years in prison for his perversions on the BBC programme received a backlash from bewildered campaigners.

In 2000, King was investigated by police in relation to allegations of sexual offences committed against boys since the 1970s.

He formerly worked as a TV producer who worked on BBC shows such as ‘No Limits’ and ‘The Great British Song Contest’.

In 2001, he was convicted of sexual assault on five teenage boys in the 1980s. He was given a seven-year jail sentence and was released on parole in 2005.

The pervert was convicted of four offences of indecent assault, one of buggery and one of attempted buggery against five boys aged 14 and 15 during the 1980s.

Once his crimes were brought to light, he refused to apologise for his crimes, and instead boasted to the national media, saying: “The only apology I have is to say that I was good at seduction. I was good at making myself seem attractive when I wasn’t very attractive at all.”

Supporters argued that King shouldn’t be “airbrushed” out of history, referring to the major role he had in handing the band, Genesis, their first big break.

However, others have questioned the wisdom of actively inviting him to participate in current programmes, as opposed to just mentioning him as a footnote.

This is not the first time the BBC has attracted criticism over its paedophile presenters. After Jimmy Saville’s death, thousands of male and female victims came forward about his predatory sexual behaviour towards them as children.

In addition, many presenters and officials working in some of the hospitals and care homes he frequented came forward and admitted they knew about his activities but were afraid to speak out for fear of losing their jobs.

The BBC was also alleged to have ignored allegations of his misconduct.
