Facebook’s push for facial recognition technology has prompted privacy concerns, it has been reported.

Facebook has been using face recognition for years to make suggestions of who should be tagged in photos you share.

Indeed, it released a statement that said: “Our technology analyzes the pixels in photos you’re already tagged in and generates a string of numbers we call a template. When photos and videos are uploaded to our systems, we compare those images to the template.”

But now it’s using those capabilities in new ways.

The technology can automatically recognise when you’ve been included in a photo even when you haven’t been tagged.

It also plans to expand its use of facial recognition, which may then affect other websites and applications that it is installed on.
