Eight people have been killed and dozens more injured in a Halloween terrorist attack that saw one driver plough through people on a bike path in lower Manhattan.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) have released a photograph of the suspected attacker, Sayfullo Saipov, 29.

This latest attack, which took place on October 31st 2017, is the first fatal terror attack in New York since 9/11.

Estimates for the number of injured ranged from 11 to 15.

The truck was crashed into a school bus, injuring a number of people including children. The attacker then got out and brandished what authorities said was a paintball gun and a pellet gun.

He was then shot in the stomach by officers, taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
