A pregnant woman from the US has filed a lawsuit after a police officer beat her so badly that she suffered a miscarriage.

Lawyers for Kenya Harris said that police officer Ryan Jenkins threatened to beat her up when she came to pick her son up – a minor – up when he had been arrested.

Ms Harris had gone to the Albany Police department and had been waiting five hours for her son.

According to court papers filed after the incident, she had told the officer that it had been an extremely long time and that she needed to return home to take care of her other children.

Officer Jenkins then threatened to “take her head” and “put it to the floor” if she didn’t stop complaining.

When Ms Harris reiterated that she needed to take care of her children, officer Jenkins carried out his threat against the obviously pregnant woman.

Court papers stated: “Defendant Officer Jenkins’ without provocation, grabbed the plaintiff, who weighs less than 120 pounds, by her neck and slammed her to the ground.

“Plaintiff momentarily blacked out and came to with defendant Officer Jenkins sitting on her back, and with his knee on her arm. Plaintiff was pregnant at the time.

“Defendant Officer put handcuffs on the plaintiff and slammed her to the wall. Plaintiff was placed into an interrogation room after she was beaten and handcuffed.”

The lawsuit then alleges that Ms Harris, who was by now in complete agony begged for medical attention, but every officer she spoke to ignored her requests.

None of the officers have so far been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The lawsuit continues.
