It has recently been reported that the CIA made claims to being responsible for over half of the sightings between the late 1950’s and 60’s. How this could be possible was the result of the American Intelligence service famous U-2 spy plane flying above altitudes of 60,000 feet.

The American intelligence service has laid claims to being responsible for more than half of all reported UFO sightings in the late 50s and 60s saying: “It was us.”

Most people thought that manned flights were impossible, but clearly not, as it led to many believing they were seeing UFO’s. It wasn’t until details emerged and later declassified in the 1998 CIA document entitled ‘The CIA and the U-2 Program, 1954-1974, the truth was revealed’.

This document records, “High-altitude testing of the U-2…led to an unexpected side effect — a tremendous increase in reports of unidentified flying objects. In the mid-1950s, most commercial airliners flew at altitudes between 10,000 and 20,000 feet and [many] military aircraft…operated at altitudes below 40,000 feet. Consequently, once U-2s started flying at altitudes above 60,000 feet, air-traffic controllers began receiving increasing numbers of UFO reports.”

The document continued to add the times and dates of UFO sightings to its flight log. In order to combat their claims, they later enabled investigators to eliminate the majority of the UFO reports. The reason for this was not to reveal to the letter the true cause of the UFO sightings. Despite this, there is still believe by many that UFO’s do exist and governments are working with them in a plan that could destroy mankind. Whether this is fact or fiction is another matter. We can only wait and see as more UFO sightings are seen with each passing year.
