It sounds like something out of some dystopian future – a micro-chipped population that is unable to access anything without confirming their identity through micro-chips.

And yet that is exactly the kind of technology that former DARPA director Regina Dugan is promoting.

She has spoken out in favour of an edible “authentication microchip” and an electronic tattoo that can read your mind.

This microchip would send out signals from inside your body and enable you to open your car, open bank accounts, buy products and do just about anything, by waving your hand over it.

Dugan who is Head of Advanced Technology at (Google-owned) Motorola explained how the company are working on a microchip inside a pill that users would swallow daily in order to obtain the “superpower” of having their body transformed into one big authentication device.

She added: “This pill has a small chip inside of it with a switch. It also has what amounts to an inside out potato battery. When you swallow it, the acids in your stomach serve as the electrolyte and that powers it up. And the switch goes on and off and creates an 18 bit ECG wide signal in your body and essentially your entire body becomes your authentication token.”

Now if that sounds like a step too far, or for those who think that such a monstrosity would never get past government controls and regulation, think again.

The RFID chip has already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dugan claimed that the pill could be taken up to 30 times a day – allegedly without causing health problems.

Motorola is also working on a wearable e-tattoo that could also read a person’s mind by detecting the unvocalized words in their throat.

Although many may find it difficult to believe that such technology exists, many tech experts – including those at manufacturer, Motorola – have confirmed the existence of such technology.

John Hewitt, spokesman for Extreme Tech, said: “It has been known for decades that when you speak to yourself in your inner voice, your brain still sends neural spike volleys to your vocal apparatus, in a similar fashion to when you actually speak aloud.”

He added that the device could allow covert voice activation as well as being used to detect stress and emotion.

Last year, the Akashic Times reported on how Motorola was developing a tattoo with a barcode inserted into it which are placed on the smartphone owner’s skin using a rubber stamp, containing flexible electronic circuits.
Instead of entering passwords, users just place their smartphones close to their tattoos for verification.
At the D11 conference, Dugan said that the tattoos will be promoted to young people by offering different designs in order to make the tracking devices look trendy.
