It has recently been reported that the National Security Agency (NSA) has spied on officials in Mexico.

But new revelations have highlighted how the “National” Security Agency’s practices, extended internationally, as well.

A report from Der Spiegal revealed that the president of Mexico has had his emails hacked by the spy agency, after NSA officials successfully exploited a key mail server in the Mexican Presidencia domain within the Mexican Presidential network. This allowed them to gain first-ever access to President Felipe Calderon’s public email account.

It should be noted that Felipe Calderón, had worked more closely with Washington than any other Mexican president before him.

The report comes weeks after news that the NSA had access to current Mexican President Pena Nieto’s emails, as well as Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s.

This operation, dubbed “Flatliquid,” is described in a document leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
