A six year old girl was mauled by a police dog outside of her home, it has been reported.

Phoebe Roberts, 6, was heading to her grandmother’s house in Harpurhey, Greater Manchester just 50 yards from her home when the police dog got distracted from its intended target and savaged her.

She was subsequently rushed to hospital with 10 puncture wounds in her right thigh. She then had to have surgery.

The officers had been despatched to Briscoe Lane in Newton Heath following reports of a car theft.

A police spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, confirmed the girl was bitten, adding: “A police dog was deployed to pursue the offender and during the chase a six-year-old girl was unfortunately bitten.”
