Mike Green has been accused of sexual offences

A Scottish Tory councillor has been charged over child sex crimes, it has been revealed. 

Fife councillor Mike Green was suspended from the party after being charged with alleged sexual offences against children. The two incidents date back to 2006 and 2011.

“A 70-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two separate incidents of non-recent sexual offences against children that took place in 2006 and 2011 in the Glenrothes and Leslie areas.

“He has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.  A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The 70-year-old has previously represented Glenrothes North, Leslie and Markinch ward on Fife Council in 2017.

The Scottish Conservatives say it has suspended Mr Green from the party until the outcome of the trial is heard.

Mark Lerigo, has been accused of child sex offences

However, he was not the only councillor to be charged with child sex offences. Mark Lerigo, 49, of Coventry, pleaded guilty to distributing extreme images of children and beastiality.

The National Crime Agency (NCA), which investigated Lerigo, said he had 1,005 illegal images on an iPad.

These included 146 images rated as the most serious category. He admitted two counts of distributing indecent images of children, three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing extreme pornography involving animals, one of possessing prohibited images of children and one of publishing an obscene article.

Investigators also found a WhatsApp chat with another offender discussing the sexual abuse of children.
