Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

During a speech at the Israeli Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he will retain all of the colonised land from Palestine.

This means that for the foreseeable future, Israel will retain full military control over all of the occupied territories, which dismisses the prospects of Palestinian statehood.

In a bizarre move, the Israeli leader also stared down the opposition and declared that Israel “will forever live by the sword”.

He also blamed all of the current problems on “extreme Islam”.

His aggressive stance even shocked members of the far-right Jewish Home party, with Betzalel Smotrich asking why he bothered trying to keep up appearances by talking to Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine.

Although Netanyahu claimed he would talk to anyone who is not trying to destroy Israel, his latest move casts doubt on any hopes of a concession or peace in the region.
