Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women

The shady activities in Hollywood have long been exposed by the alternative media.

For many years the idea of predatory sex abuse in Hollywood was seen to be a pure fantasy invented by tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists with too much time on their hands.

However, the Harvey Weinstein scandal has helped to shed a light on some of the sex abuse that has plagued Hollywood since its inception.

More than 40 A-list actresses have come forward to accuse Harvey of either raping them, sexually harassing them in exchange for prominent movie roles or destroying the careers of those who rejected his advances.

Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow both say that they were harassed by Weinstein in a hotel room early in their careers.

Italian actress Asia Argento claims that she was raped by Weinstein, as does aspiring actress Lucia Evans and another unnamed woman.

Other actresses such as Mira Sorvino and Rosanna Arquette claimed that their careers began to suffer after they refused his advances.

Jessica Barth who starred in ‘Ted’ said she was told that she was too fat to compete with Mila Kunis when she refused to give Weinstein a naked massage in 2011.

Angelina Jolie, said in an interview with the New York Times “’I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did”.

Actress Lupita Nyong also reported that Harvey Weinstein harassed her, after inviting her to his family home under the pretense of watching a film with his family.

Shortly after she arrived he told his her in front of his children, that she should follow him to her bedroom.

She then claims he asked for a massage, before stating he wanted to take off his pants. Ms Nyong said: “I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that.”

In a separate incident he propositioned her at a restaurant.

She also said that she was worried her career would suffer after turning down his advances.

One of the first actresses to accuse Harvey was Asia Argento who has now left her native Italy after receiving a hostile reaction from members of the public, thanks to the Italian press.

Ms Argento has now said she will move from Italy to Germany and criticised the “climate of tension” and “victim blaming” in her home country.

“Italy is far behind the rest of the world in its view of women,” she said in a recent interview. I don’t see what I can do there – I’ll come back when things improve to fight alongside all the other women,” she said.

She added: “I didn’t have to courage to speak until now because you see what happened, 20 years after the attack?”
