Uncertainties about whether a person can still transmit Covid-19 after they have been vaccinated still persist, according to Pfizer chairman Albert Bourla.

The interview was aired on Thursday, December 3rd in a Dateline programme called ‘Race for a Vaccine: Who Will Get it First?’.

Dateline host Lester Holt asked Bourla if being vaccinated for the virus meant he could still transmit it to others.

Bourla replied that the pharmaceutical company was “not certain” if the vaccine prevented the coronavirus from being transmitted, saying, “This is something that needs to be examined. We are not certain about that right now with what we know”.

The UK became the first country to approve Pfizer’s vaccine this week with the first round of immunizations expected to roll out next week.

US and EU regulators have yet to give their approval and are still sifting through trial data.
